Egypt: Nile Legends and
Red Sea Zen

A family Easter journey from Cairo to Luxor, the Nile and the Red Sea in eleven days

Your Escape

Egypt is a place where ancient stories meet daily life. Pyramids rise from the edge of the desert, feluccas glide along the Nile, and call to prayer drifts over busy streets. This Easter journey moves through the country in comfort and style, beginning in Cairo, continuing through Luxor and the Nile Valley, and ending on the Red Sea coast. It is designed for families who want to experience Egypt’s great sights with space to rest and reconnect.

Time in Cairo sets the scene. VIP arrival services and a refined base on the Nile make the city feel manageable and welcoming. A privately guided visit to the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx brings the ancient world into focus, while an after-hours tour of the Egyptian Museum offers rare quiet around its most famous pieces. The new Grand Egyptian Museum adds a contemporary layer, with modern storytelling around monumental artefacts.

From there, the journey turns south. A short flight to Luxor leads to a night in a characterful boutique property, then onto a luxury Nile cruiser with generous cabins and a calm, unhurried atmosphere. Mornings bring guided visits to temples and tombs along the river, and afternoons leave time for the pool or spa. Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan unfold at a measured pace. The final days are reserved for the Red Sea, where clear water, coral and long beaches offer an easy finish before the flight home.

Your day-by-day itinerary

  • Day

    1

Arrival in Cairo and evening at the museum

Arrive in Cairo with VIP airport assistance and a private transfer into the city. Check into a Nile-side hotel that suits both adults and older children, with pools and city views. The afternoon is kept light for rest and adjustment.

In the early evening, head to the Egyptian Museum for a privately guided visit after closing time, subject to final confirmation. Moving through the galleries once the daytime crowds have gone allows more time and space around key pieces, an atmospheric introduction to Egypt’s ancient heritage.

Pyramids, Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum

Begin the day with a private guide and driver for a half day in Giza. Visit the Pyramids and the Sphinx, taking time at viewpoints that show the full scale of the plateau. A dedicated Egyptologist brings context to the engineering, symbolism and stories behind these monuments in a way that works for both adults and teens.

In the afternoon, continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum. New exhibition spaces showcase thousands of artefacts, from early dynastic pieces to the height of imperial power and into the later periods. Thoughtful interpretation and modern design help frame the sweep of ancient Egyptian history in a clear, engaging way. Return to the hotel by early evening.

    Cairo to Luxor

After a relaxed morning, transfer by private minibus to Cairo Airport for the short flight south to Luxor. On arrival, meet a local representative and travel by private vehicle to a boutique property set amid gardens on the quieter side of the river.

The rest of the day is for swimming, unwinding and enjoying the setting, with the Theban hills visible in the distance. This pause before boarding the cruise keeps the overall rhythm comfortable for all three generations.

Luxury Nile cruising from Luxor to Aswan

Late morning, transfer to the river to board a luxury Nile cruiser, designed with spacious cabins, suites and relaxed shared areas. Settle into cabins and enjoy lunch on board as the boat prepares to sail. In the afternoon, step ashore with an Egyptologist to visit the great temple complexes of Luxor and Karnak, returning to the ship in time for tea and a first evening on the river.

Over the following days, the cruise follows a classic route downstream. Mornings are usually devoted to guided visits, while afternoons often bring sailing time and hours to enjoy the pool, spa or lounge. The West Bank near Luxor reveals the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon, alongside a visit to the village of Deir el Medina, once home to the artisans who worked on the royal tombs. Further along the river, calls at Edfu and Kom Ombo allow time to explore remarkably well-preserved temples with detailed reliefs and riverside views.

As the boat continues towards Aswan, desert and cultivated land alternate along the banks. Near journey’s end, visits include the High Dam, the island temple of Philae and the botanical gardens set on Kitchener’s Island, reached by small boat. On board, meals are unhurried, and the atmosphere remains calm, allowing adults and teenagers to enjoy both the cultural programme and time simply watching the Nile drift past.

Disembarkation takes place in Aswan on the final morning, with a private transfer to the airport.

From the Nile to the Red Sea

Leave Aswan by morning flight and travel across to the Red Sea coast. On arrival in Hurghada, meet a driver and continue by private minibus to a beachfront resort set on a wide stretch of sand.

Check in and spend the remainder of the day settling into suites, finding favourite corners of the pool and beach, and enjoying the softer pace of the coast after days on the river.

    Red Sea rest and water

These days are kept completely flexible for time by the sea. Clear water and a house reef make it easy to arrange snorkelling trips or introductory diving for older children, while boat excursions can explore further along the coast.

On shore, there is ample space for swimming, reading in the shade or making use of resort facilities that may include tennis courts, a spa and informal dining by the beach. Evenings lend themselves to relaxed family dinners and stargazing in the warm night air.
