Jordan
Jordan is a unique destination offering some breathtaking and inspiring sights. Visitors marvel at the haunting, primeval starkness of Wadi Rum, the majestic ruins of bygone civilisations and the timeless splendour of the Dead Sea.
The cleansing mud baths of the Dead Sea are a big attraction, as studies have shown the combination of the water and the rich black mud found along the shoreline to have significant health benefits including increasing circulation, easing discomfort from arthritis, healing allergies, and revitalising skin. The sea water, so salty that it is impossible to sink in it, contains 21 minerals including high levels of magnesium, sodium, potassium, and bromine and 12 of these minerals are found in no other body of water in the world.
Nearby is another natural wonder, the Hammamat Ma’in (Ma’in Hot Springs). Popular with both locals and tourists alike, the springs are located 264m below sea level in one of the most breathtaking desert oases in the world. Thousands of visiting bathers come each year to enjoy the mineral-rich waters of these hyper-thermal waterfalls. These falls originate from winter rainfalls in the highland plains of Jordan and eventually feed the 109 hot and cold springs in the valley. This water is heated to temperatures of up to 63° Celsius by underground lava fissures as it makes its way through the valley before emptying into the Zarqa River.
Another natural experience not to be missed is a night or two of camping under the stars enjoying the silence of the desert, far away from the stresses of everyday life.
