Detox Holidays

I am so delighted with everything about Kamalaya. It is such a fantastic place. I don't even know where to begin to express how fantastic it was!! All I can say it that Kamalaya does exactly what it say on the tin!! I went there with an open mind and a will to heal myself and even after 24 hours I was already feeling stronger and more positive. Now that I am back in the real world i feel like I'm on a mission to better myself and live a healthy positive life.

The service at Kamalaya was exceptional, from the moment i was picked up at the airport to the moment i was dropped off i was made to feel like i was the only person on the planet that mattered. It was so refreshing to have people running around after me because normally it is me doing all the running!! The food, the scenery, the rooms, the treatments, the classes, the staff... Everything was truly amazing!!

I will recommend you to my friends for sure!! Thanks for organizing everything for me!

Kamalaya was absoloutely fantastic, well worth the journey and the money. We had a perfect holiday and have returned thinner, detoxed and very relaxed. We would highly recommend it to our friends and will be returning hopefully in the very near future.

Kamalaya is not like any other spa I have ever been to and that is probably because it is not a spa but a retreat and it is quite unique. Kamalaya is a wellness retreat specializing in detox, rejuvenation, relaxation and burnout. Unlike other detox diets I have undertaken here they do not starve you or deny your body nutrition, which can cause your body to go into crisis. Instead they approach detox on a cellular level and want to nourish the cells rather than deprive them. Their approach is to promote healing & overall wellness through food. Guests can enjoy a large breakfast and 3 course lunch and dinner with drinks in between. Those that take other packages benefit from a healthy and nutritious cuisine and the all inclusive package means that unless you drink alcoholic drinks or take additional treatments, there is nothing to pay in resort.

The hotel provides their own comfortable transfers and you will be met at the airport and helped to the resort by their friendly staff. Upon arrival at Kamalaya we waited in the comfortable lobby to be shown our room and the peace and tranquillity were evident immediately, with a focus on sounds of water. The lobby is open air and a soft breeze drifted through, the style is traditional with a feature pond and a statue of Buddha. The retreat is very tropical with pathways winding through streams, waterfalls and rainforest vegetation. The resort is built into the cliff side so there are some parts with steeper climbs and those with walking difficulties should take care. There are a choice of rooms including hillside garden or sea view, please note these have shower only, suites which are more spacious with an open plan living and bedroom with an outdoor bathroom, there are also villas and villas with 1 or 2 bedrooms and their own pools.

We stayed in a Villa here which offered a great location close to the entrance to the wellness spa as well as being close to the main restaurant and pool. The Villa was very spacious and offered an ocean facing balcony with views across the canopies to the sea. It offered an outside seating area and 2 day beds for private relaxation and sunbathing. They boast a double bed, large seating area and a bathroom which has a rustic outdoor feel whilst actually being totally covered from the elements. These rooms have a shower only with vanity unit but in such a warm climate I did not miss a bath at all.

They offer a wide variety of fresh drinks, includingfruit and vegetable juices, smoothies and teas. Caffiene and alcohol are not forbidden although of course not encouraged for those that are cleansing. I especially liked sampling the different juices and smoothies and though that describing the benefits that the ingredients offer was a great touch and allowed me to drink the right option when I had a headache one afternoon. There is one restaurant for lunch or dinner and Amrita cafe for lunch which is only closed if the weather is bad, for the evening as well as a tea lounge.

After lunch we had our first treatment which was a 60 minute massage using oil. What a great way to start the wellness experience. The massage was wonderful, smoothing the knots in my shoulders from too much time sitting at a desk. Afterwards I felt relaxed and finished the experience with sometime in the sauna and a dip in the plunge pool. The staff at the wellness spa carefully plan the program of treatments that are included in the package and of course there is an al a carte menu to add on anything extra. We dined on the community table that evening which was a great experience as we got to chat to some really interesting people and pick up tips on the classes, treatments and cuisine.

It is also great for anyone travelling alone that is worried they will be lonely, I think it would be very hard to feel lonely here as there is so much going on and your day can be filled with treatments, activities and classes as well as simply relaxing by the pool or on the beach reading a book and meals can be taken alone or just join the group, it is so relaxed. All of the staff from the gardeners to the reception staff always greet you and the service is incredibly warm, friendly, efficient but it never felt intrusive. Throughout the day the resort offer activities such as Thai boxing, pilates, yoga of course as well mediation and pranyama. As they offer a holistic approach to wellbeing it is not just about the body and diet it is also about your mental and spiritual wellbeing as well. I am not saying that it is overly religious here, far from it. They just take the approach that unless you address all issues and problems you have with food or diet or stress may continue once you leave and you cannot fix just one area. The pranyama and meditation sessions offer a chance to focus your mind and learn breathing techniques for helping to deal with stress. The fitness classes also promote a feeling of wellbeing and the time spend here is time to focus on you and so many people say that they went as they were burnout and work and needed to cleanse and learn to deal with stress and they left with this and so much more. They had time to heal their bodies, minds and souls and had time to reflect on their values and felt they were leaving as changed people inside and out.
