Abhyanga: A traditional synchronized full body massage given by two therapists using herbal infused sesame oil. 1 x 55 minute session.

Jal Neti: An effective Hatha yogic nasal cleansing experience in which salted lukewarm water is poured through nostrils. 1 x 30 minute session.

Kunjal: A powerful yogic technique of cleansing the digestive tract between the stomach and mouth through regurgitation of salted water. 1 x 30 minute session.

Trataka: An intense Hatha yogic technique of candle gazing to develop concentration and will power. 1 x 30 minute session.

Yoga Nidra per room: A guided process of relaxation to quieten the agitations of the conscious mind and awaken the awareness and immense healing potential of the subconscious. 1 x 45 minute session.

Detoxifying Jet Blitz Shower: A high pressure shower jet stimulates blood circulation and re-contours the body. 1 x 20 minute session.

Detoxifying Aromatherapy Massage: A holistic full body experience using Grapefruit, Juniper and Cypress essential oils to promote the elimination of toxins and waste. Using lymphatic and pressure point massage to reduce water retention. 1 x 85 minute session.

Detoxifying Salt Scrub: Essential oils of Grapefruit, Cypress and Juniper are infused into natural sea salt used to cleanse the body and fight cellulite. 1 x 45 minute session.

Personalised Yoga per room: Individual attention with dialogue and adjustments specifically tailored for personal needs. 4 x 60 minute sessions.

Pranayama per room: Here the attention is on the breath, it enhances a person‟s level of vitality and relaxation. 3 x 30 minute sessions.

Himalayan Honey and Rose facial: This stimulating and refreshing facial uses a blend of Sandalwood and Rose essential oils. Pure honey is massaged into the skin and a mask of cooling cucumber is applied. 1 x 55 minute session.

A true destination spa retreat, Ananda sits in the picturesque foothills of the Himalayas in a majestic palace and 100-acre estate of the Maharaja of Teri-Garhwal. The magic of the Himalayan landscape and salubrious year-round climate make for the perfect place to absorb yourself in pampered bliss. Ananda spa resort, Himalayas is a place to seek solace and complete escape from it all in one of the most magical settings in the world.

At Ananda in the Himalayas, each guest is considired unique. So too are the programmes and experiences that are offered. Individual needs and requirements are assessed prior to the programme being selected, through a personal consultation with the Ayurveda and wellness consultants.

Art and culture is a strong theme at Ananda, to elevate the human spirit and enhance wellness, with Indian classical and folk dance and songs and visiting performers.


The serene guest rooms use colours echoing nature and are kitted out with kurta pyjamas and fresh ginger teas. There are 70 deluxe rooms, with walk-in closets and large balconies, making the most of the panoramic views of the valley or of the Palace. The deluxe suites offer sitting rooms and secluded private gardens, as well as spectacular views. The Ananda suite offers sitting and dining areas with a large garden, whereas the Viceregal suite adds a private rooftop jacuzzi. The spacious villas have private saunas and tranquil private pools.


The cuisine at Ananda is founded on Ayurvedic priniciples, and a customised diet is advised, depending on whether you are considered Vata, Pitta or Kapha. The menus are based on fresh natural foods low in fat and calories, with an emphasis on whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, low-fat dairy products, and the avoidance of added or artificial salts, colors, flavors, or preservatives.

The philosophy is not that of weight loss, but instead learning a new way of life, based on rejuvenation. There is a show kitchen at Ananda where the chefs show how to make these dishes at home. Special care menus are provided in consultation with the in house Ayurvedic doctor, to align the specific imbalances of the various body types.

Choose to dine at the main restaurant overlooking the valley, on the tree-top deck amongst lush vegetation, in the intimate pavilion, in the elegant tea lounge or down by the pool, all with a choice of delicacies from world cuisine.


Fitness centre, swimming pool, adventure walks and visits to local places of interest, squash, golf, yoga pavilion, billiards room (featuring a 100 year old billiards table, the oldest in India), library, white water rafting and angling.

Emma Recommends:definitely taking a valley view room as the vista over the snow capped mountains is one not to miss, especially from your bath tub! I also suggest keeping a careful watch over your belongings when dining on the outside terrace as some of those monkeys can appear very quickly. I stuck to the recommended foods to eat and those to avoid for my "dosha" during the week I was there and could not believe that despite indulging in what felt like too much good food and fresh juices, I lost 4lbs and that was not even on a weight program. I made full use of the daily yoga classes and tried one of the hikes which although challenging, should not be missed.


Other Activities:

Safari at the Rajaji National Park: Located at a driving distance of about 75 minutes each way, the Park allows visitors for a morning and afternoon Jeep safari. The Park is famous for the Asiatic Wild Elephants, Leopards, Chital, Sambhar Deer, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Blue Bulls and 460 species of different Birds suchas the Indian Roller, Tree Pie, Himalayan Falcon, White necked Kingfisher, Jungle Foul and the Great Indian Hornbill to name a few.

Rafting on Ganges: White water rafting can be organized for those who would like to pack in some adventure along with their holiday at the Ananda – in the Himalayas.

Trek through the Himalayan foothills: Ananda’s guide will suggest the perfect trek for you according to your physical condition and the type of landscape and experience you seek. There are a number of local treks of varying distances and difficulties to choose from.

Cycle by the holy river: Cycle through the most striking sights and the uncomplicated hilly life is an experience to cherish. Hop on to Ananda’s sturdy hill bikes with our guide, and cycle through Sal and Teak forests.

Anada signature experiences: Fine dining, golf, music lessons, spa cuisine, crafts shopping - the choices are many. Temple tours: Visit an array of different temples amoungst the centre of Indian Spirituality.
